The Mecca of Buddhism
In 2015, the Hesperia City Council passed a resolution in support of the project.
Located in the high desert of southern California and extending over 120 acres, Buddhapolis will host more than 30 different Buddhist centers from around the world. Temples with styles from India, Thailand, China, Japan, Tibet, Central Asia, and more make this a vibrant spiritual and cultural site.

The True Dharma Temple and Heavenly Holy Lake
Buddhapolis’ central features are the magnificent True Dharma Temple and Heavenly Holy Lake. A winding river flows from the lake, linking the other centers. Small shops and cafes line the pedestrian walkways and gardens along the riverway. On special occasions, festivals and cultural activities will be held. It will truly become a pilgrimage site for faithful Buddhists and anyone curious about Buddhism.

Buddhapolis will be developed in two phases
Phase One is estimated to be completed in 2027, and includes the main temple, True Dharma Temple, the lake, the plaza, and two other large temple complexes, Fa Chan Temple and Macang Yuan. Public programs will start operation then. Buddhist Town will be open to the public when Phase One construction is complete. Currently, it is closed to the public except for certain scheduled activities.

History and Background
The leading force of Buddhapolis is the World Buddhism Association Headquarters (WBAH), headquartered in Pasadena, California, with more than 30,000 members from 22 nations and all Buddhist sects. In 2014, WBAH’s search team found this beautiful piece of land in Hesperia, California, and it was blessed by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, who named it Holy Heavenly Lake.
In 2015, the Hesperia City Council passed a resolution in support of the project. On June 24, 2018, WBAH held an initiating assembly in Hesperia and invited H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III to bestow blessings and pray for world peace and prosperity. More than 2,600 people and 300 volunteers from 15 countries attended the assembly. On February 24, 2019, a City Planning Commission hearing presented the design to the public and received widespread community support.
